Aintree

North of Liverpool, Aintree is best known as the home of the world-famous Grand National steeplechase. Horseracing at Aintree dates back to the 19th century, but the course was also used as a motor racing circuit and was the five-time home to the British Grand Prix between 1955 and 1962. The Leeds-Liverpool canal also runs through the village.
