I have to be honest, I am 50/50 on whether Sean Dyche was right or wrong not to make changes earlier at the weekend. On one hand, I understand why Sean kept things as they were. On the other, we did look tired and were in need of some fresh legs.

But, when you consider how far we have come under Sean in the short space of time he has been here, I just think you have to trust his opinion.

Also, if we see out the game, which we were incredibly close to doing, then we are probably not having this debate; instead, we are saying how Sean got it spot on.

However, what I would say is that the changes Brighton made certainly improved them. They looked more of a goal threat as a result.

There is also no getting away from the fact that we looked tired. I have been there as a player; your body is fine, but in your head you are starting to feel it.

What also didn’t help on Saturday was that it was our third game in six days, and the bulk of the side had started in all three of those fixtures.

There are pros and cons to this argument, but for me, we have to trust the manager and his judgement.

Fans must realise every manager has their own style

I think it is important for supporters to realise that every manager has their own style of play, and not every fan is going to agree with that style.

I have seen a lot of debate online following Saturday’s game about the way we set up, but for me, the most important thing is that we are getting results.

Football is a results-driven business and picking up points is important if we are to avoid another relegation battle.

Even someone like Jose Mourinho has his own style of play, which is to park the bus, as they say, and he deployed that at Real Madrid, but the big difference is that he had Cristiano Ronaldo up front.

I am not comparing Jose Mourinho to Sean Dyche, but what I am saying is that both managers have their own beliefs about how their sides should be set up to play.

Sean Dyche, and he deserves credit for this, has found a solution to get the best out of the players he has at his disposal. Which is what we wanted him to do when he became manager.

This weekend we make the trip to Selhurst Park to take on Crystal Palace, which I suspect won’t be a great watch on the eye.

Palace are very similar to ourselves. They look to counter in behind and hit teams on the break.

I think we have to apply ourselves in a similar way to the way we did against West Ham United. We did the ugly side of the game really well that afternoon, and I have a feeling we will have to do the same on Saturday.

Abdoulaye Doucoure contract is important for club

I was delighted to see Abdoulaye Doucoure sign a new contract with the club.

Since Sean Dyche has come in, Doucoure has been one of our better players, and who will ever forget the goal he scored against Bournemouth?

But I also think that Doucoure is a prime example of what can happen when someone, like your manager, shows faith in you. The smile on his face now tells the story.

Next summer could be another difficult one for the club due to the number of players we have out of contract, which is why it is important to see players like Doucoure tied down.
