Barclays is closing a Merseyside branch.
The Liscard branch in Wallasey will stop trading on Thursday, March 2024 and the bank said the closure is due to a lack of footfall. The closest Barclays branch will now be in Birkenhead and the bank plans to open a Barclays Local- a cashless banking site where customers can meet a colleague face-to-face for banking support.
185 regular customers use this branch exclusively and Barclays will offer digital support sessions for customers wishing to explore digital banking and other alternatives to branch-based banking.

Barclays digital customers have grown every year and now stand at 10.9 million, with nearly four billion app logins a year and over 90% of transactions completed digitally. The branch closure will be in accordance with Barclays regulatory obligations, all regular customers will receive a letter, a decision to close document and posters will be displayed in the branch.
A spokesperson for Barclays said: “As visits to branches continue to fall, with the majority of people preferring to bank online, we need to adapt to provide the best service for all our customers. This is reflected at Liscard, where we are delivering new ways to support our customers and the community with options for those who need in-person services.
“In Liscard we plan to open a Barclays Local – a cashless banking site where customers can meet a colleague face-to-face for banking support, as they would in a branch and without the need to travel. We are currently working with the local community to identify a suitable location and will announce details once confirmed.”
