10 years is an important milestone in any organisation's lifespan - and Liverpool Life Sciences UTC and The Studio School have certainly used the past decade to their full advantage.
The prominent schools - both under the Northern Schools Trust (NST) umbrella - are located in Liverpool’s independent creative and digital district, the Baltic Triangle, and celebrated their 10th anniversary on Thursday, October 5, 2023.
The event saw current students, school alumni and staff come together in the beautiful Grade II listed building to mark the occasion, and to look back on what they’ve dubbed ‘10 years of opportunity’, as well as looking towards an exciting future.
The invite-only guest list of 160 staff, former students and governors was very much a family affair. Many former students and staff members are still involved with the schools in some capacity, like Adam Galloway who is now a governor at The Studio School.
Current students also had the chance to make their mark, showcasing their award-winning projects to guests. A presentation featuring principal Jill Davies, NST chairman Geoff Wainwright and former students Adam Galloway, Joe Benson and Jack Hickey-Welsh set the scene for guests.
Speaking at the event, principal Jill Davies said: “My heartfelt thanks goes to every single person who helped shape these schools into what they are today and in doing so shaped and impacted the lives of thousands of young people.
"My plea is to continue to be our greatest advocates and support network because the students in these schools aspire to be just like you."
Liverpool Life Sciences UTC and The Studio School offer young people aged 14-19 a secondary education designed to give them the practical skills and real-world experience that they will need in their future careers.
Liverpool Life Sciences UTC educates future healthcare professionals, scientists and engineers, while The Studio focuses on specialising in all things digital, including computing, media and animation.
GCSE students at both schools will study core subjects such as English and Maths, but the range of other subjects available are geared towards supporting routes into careers in medicine, nursing, engineering, media, and much more. They can even mix and match subjects from across both schools.
Post-GCSE choices can then help students specialise even further; at Liverpool Life Sciences UTC, they can choose from BTEC, A-Levels, Diplomas or other professional qualifications that will support their career path.
At The Studio, they can choose from the Creative Pathway which combines three A-levels, or the Tech Pathway, a combination of A-Levels and vocational training.
While both schools support different types of career pathways, they also have plenty of shared characteristics and ambitions, as part of the Northern Schools Trust.
Not only were they both rated ‘Good’ in their most recent Ofsted inspection, but they also promise the same passion and commitment to help their students succeed.
This is reflected in their shared motto, ‘every day is an interview’ - an ethos that is carried through everything they do, and has translated into award-winning results.
This year alone, Liverpool Life Sciences UTC and The Studio School students were recognised with six national awards for their projects, covering innovation, research, technology and medical science.
While technology and facilities have evolved and updated throughout the decade since the schools were established, in order to stay on top of the latest innovations, they’ve always remained committed to providing an outstanding - and alternative - way of learning and education.
