Everton
Everton FC, formerly St Domingo’s, was founded in this community just north of Liverpool city centre. The team’s crest features Prince Rupert’s Tower, an old lock-up, which still stands on Netherton Road and the club is nicknamed The Toffees based on the traditional Toffee Lady who handed out sweets and Everton Mints before the game. Parts of Silas Hocking’s book Her Benny, about Liverpool street children in the early 1900s, was set in Everton. Landmark’s include the grade II-listed Everton Water Tower.
