Popular coffee shop and bar Nomad is a little slice of heaven on Smithdown Road - and they serve a truly tasty breakfast.
Smithdown Road is an eclectic and bustling strip located in south Liverpool, packed with bars, restaurants, independent shops and more. While it remains a firm favourite among Liverpool's thriving student population, there's definitely something for everyone.
Nomad is one venue that's sure to please all ages. It's relatively compact yet oozes effortless charm and cool.

Exposed brick walls are painted in calming white, bistro-style tables are topped with faux flowers adding pops of colour, and the dark doors are flanked by huge glass windows which flood the space with light, making it a perfect place to pop in for a beverage or snack on a hot summer's day.
One particularly hot and stuffy morning, I ventured in for breakfast with my little dog in tow, and was immediately struck by the calming atmosphere. As soon as I stepped over the threshold, the horde of cars whizzing down Smithdown Road and chatter of strangers faded away.
Despite my dog's manic and chaotic desperation to befriend every single human being he encounters, I managed to find a quiet table and settle down to peruse the small breakfast menu at a leisurely pace. Nomad offers a traditional full English breakfast with all the expected trimmings, as well as a vegetarian and vegan version.
It also boasts the Nomad Breakfast Bun, which costs £6.50 and includes a fried or poached egg, sausage, bacon, black pudding, homemade potato hash, roast mushroom, tomato and a side of beans, served up on a "bin lid bun". There's a variety of 'Nomad eggs', done in a range of ways, as well as granola and pancakes for those with a sweet tooth.
I opted for the Nomad Vegetarian Breakfast, which costs £5.50 for a small plate, or £8 for a large. I stuck with small and was pleasantly surprised it was still a generous portion.
It included a rather sad-looking sausage, a poached egg, a thick slice of toast, a pot of beans, mushrooms, tomato, homemade potato hash and a dollop of avocado. Despite the sausage's appearance, it was completely delicious.
The egg was poached to perfection with a beautiful, satisfyingly runny yolk; the avocado was creamy, zesty and fresh; the tomato was sweet and juicy; the mushrooms were packed with flavour and managed to be soft without being rubbery or greasy; and you can't go wrong with a thick slice of toast topped with a generous swipe of margarine, in my opinion. The potato hash was a tad underdone, but still more than satisfying.
I also loved that the beans came in their own separate little pot - I know this is a bone of contention with many breakfast fans but I personally don't want bean juice oozing onto all the other ingredients. I'm firmly on Sally Albright's side - some foods and sauces just belong on the side.
Nomad is a gorgeous, serene spot with a decent menu of freshly cooked, tasty food. I'll definitely be going back for another breakfast in the future - I may even pig out on a large plate next time.
