One year ago today, a nine-year-old girl was shot dead in her Liverpool home.
Those words still seem scarcely believable.
On the night of August 22, 2022, as news began to emerge about what had happened on Kingsheath Avenue, Dovecot, our city was in shock. That shock swiftly turned to anger - and solidarity. Solidarity with Olivia's family, with the children at her school, St Margaret Mary's, and with the wider Dovecot community.
As more details emerged about the crime - and about Olivia - other emotions were stirred. There was revulsion at those who carry guns on our streets, and at anyone who might protect them.

But there was also a sense of responsibility, as huge numbers of people came forward to share details which could help track down Olivia's killer.
Justice was served - though no sentence can ever make up for Olivia's loss. And today is not about the coward who killed her. It is about Olivia, remembered today by her mum Cheryl as her "sassy little princess", who "loved life".
And it is about the people of Dovecot, who came together at the darkest of times.
Today we hear from the families who had to explain to their own children what had happened, who lived among a crime scene as the eyes of the world - and in some cases the judgement of others outside Merseyside - fell upon the place they called home.
Their pride in their community shines through. And the memory of Olivia shines brightest. Her life was cut short but her memory lives on. RIP Olivia - you will never be forgotten.
