Waterloo
This Sefton suburb got its name from the Royal Waterloo Hotel which opened in 1816 on the first anniversary of the Battle of Waterloo. It is the original home of Waterloo Rugby Club and has its own community cinema the Plaza. Famous former residents include barrister Cherie Booth, wife of former prime minster Tony Blair, and Joseph Bruce Ismay, managing director of the White Star Line who survived the sinking of the Titanic.
