I'm not usually a wimp.

But when I visited Contained Liverpool on Derby Road, in Bootle, I was absolutely petrified. The ECHO previously reported how concerned commuters were getting out of their cars after hearing terrified screams coming from the escape room venue.

Somehow, I didn't think I'd be part of that problem, but as my group and I sat waiting for their new Exorcist escape room experience I quickly realised I was bound to be.

The biggest mistake we made was arriving early. As you sit in the dimly lit waiting area you can hear the horrific screams from the two escape rooms on either side.

The screeching sound of a chainsaw roared through the building, quickly followed by the bang of a door as a terrified woman ran out from the live escape room experience, 'SNATCHED'. Thankfully, we were told that there would be no chainsaws involved in the Exorcist escape room experience, just the promise of a demonic child and plenty of jump scares.

Before entering the escape room, we were told about Father Daniels, a missing priest who was last seen visiting the home of a 12-year-old possessed child. We were tasked with solving a series of puzzles and clues - in under an hour - to defeat the demon and find the priest.

Our host gave us two phrases that would help us throughout the challenge, although they were quickly forgotten about as soon as we entered the bedroom. "Lord, let there be light" shines a light on the puzzle we should be working and "Lord, let there be guidance" would reveal a clue to help us with a puzzle.

These clues were unlimited but optional and you don't need to be a fan of the film to help you. For my petrified group, they were extremely helpful for getting our focus back on the puzzles - rather than pacing around the room in hopes of spotting a clue.

We first entered the girl's bedroom where we faced the possessed animatronic for the first time. It's safe to say that I screamed 30 seconds after walking into the room.

After every puzzle, there's another jump scare or threat of looming doom. Without giving away any spoilers, I would not recommend the experience to anyone afraid of the dark or loud noises.

We went as a group of three, but the experience can cater for groups between two and six people. The experience is aged 15+ but under 18s must be accompanied by an adult.

Although there is no food available, there are alcoholic and soft drinks available. Groups can also take away their own 'Scream Cam' photograph to remember the experience.

The drinks were reasonably priced. A bottle of Peroni or Rekordelig costs £4 and a glass of wine is £5.50.

There is also another escape room for those feeling much braver than we were. Unlike the Exorcist, 'SNATCHED' has a live actor as part of the experience.

In this terrifying game, you and your team are locked inside an abandoned house with a "deranged killer". We were told that it is quite common for people to "wet themselves" in that escape room - be warned.
