Wirral Council
Wirral Council covers the borough of Wirral, which stretches from New Brighton in the North to Eastham in the South and Hoylake and Heswall further to the West. The council was run by the Conservatives from its inception in 1973 until 1990. Since then, Labour councillors have led the authority, except for two brief periods between 2010 and 2012. Since September 2020, Labour’s Janette Williamson has led the council, becoming the first woman in 30 years to take the role and only the second in the authority’s history.
