Popular with footballers this wealthy south Liverpool suburb also boasts numerous Beatles landmarks. John Lennon's childhood home Mendips, where he was raised by his Aunt Mimi, is in Woolton and was bought by his widow Yoko Ono and donated to the National Trust. Lennon's home was near the Salvation Army's children's home Strawberry Field which inspired one of The Beatles' best-known hits while he is said to have first met Paul McCartney at Woolton Village Fete in 1957. Legendary Liverpool manager Bob Paisley is buried in St Peter's churchyard.
